High Line Walk
One thing I really had been wanting to do in the city was walk the entire High Line trail. I had walked parts of it before but never had the disposition to do the entire trail. It was windy, and cold but we did it. The elevated trail is 1.45 miles long and it traverses the West side of Manhattan. It used to be a historic freight rail line. It was created in 2009 and has since been a hybrid public space where people can appreciate nature, design, and art. The whole time I was walking through this elevated passage, I was thinking about the “Concrete Jungle” line from Empire State of Mind by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z. The High Line pairs up very nicely with that verse because it brings to life that analogy of a Concrete Jungle. All in all, the walk was very pleasant despite the weather. I would like to go back during the night and take some long exposure pictures. My favorite part is where it passes by Chelsea Market because the Little Island can be seen in the distance. I enjoy this way more than going to Times Square. My husband and I have been trying to stay more active this year and this was a nice way of killing three birds with one stone:
1. Getting our stride on after a delicious meal
2. Beautiful views for pictures
3. Quality time with my sugarplum
So “if you don’t know, now you know”, next time you come to NYC be sure to walk the High Line!
Here are some of my favorite shots from this day.
Nothing screams NYC like this song.
