Forever Now

*SPOILER ALERT* If you aren’t up to date with this season, do not read any further. We are on the final season of This Is Us and this season has not been the exception to making me cry. There have been certain scenes that have made me tear and then there have been those that have made me literally bawl. The ending scene of Episode 13 tugged at my heart strings. My sister and cousin were discussing it and my sister hit it on the nail by saying “it was a full circle moment”. If there is one theme that is quintessential in the show, it is time. Randall made a speech about time and he commanded the audience as he always does. He recounted that time seems limitless when we are younger but scarce the older we get. Our age is inversely proportional to time. And so with that in mind, the more intentional we should be with our time as we age. One line that stuck out to me in Randall’s speech was the following:

“When you are surrounded by your favorite people in the world and celebrating a really special day, time does slow down a little bit”.

It got me thinking about the most euphoric moments of my life and how time really did feel like it slowed down for a moment. Perhaps this is why I am so inclined to write down these memories because they give me back that feeling in a way.

This episode was building up to Rebecca’s performance and the song could not have been more perfect for that moment. Her alzheimers has worsened significantly, so that performance was everything. I won’t go through the lyrics of the song, I would like to just leave you with the chorus:

I get this moment with you forеver now
It all hits me at once forever now
If there's a right way to say it
I'm still learning how
All that we have is a forever now

Sometimes we get so caught up in thinking and planning for the future we forget how precious the present is, and really it is all we really can count on. Do not overthink living in the moment. Go on that trip, make that call, write that letter, hug that person, laugh uncontrollably, love without measure… because all we have is a forever now.
