Accountability

Think back to a time you were mentored and you achieved the goal you set. Mentors in my opinion are the individuals that push you toward achievement and see skills/talents you may not see yourself. A mentor is a trusted advisor, a person that will keep it real with you, an active listener. Good mentors are the ones that keep you accountable. Without accountability there is no mentoring. Mentors are usually experts in your field of work. They take pride and enthusiasm in this role. Who is your mentor?

If you don’t have one that’s ok, find an accountability partner or even build your own accountability squad. This is not to discredit our self-accountability, you do the work at the end of the day, but I do believe there is power in surrounding yourself with people that believe in you and are rooting for your success. I was listening to someone speak the other day and they said “sometimes the people closest to you are the ones waiting for you to fail”. There are people out there feigning their friendliness and low key just waiting for you to fail because that is their way of deflecting their insecurities. Be aware of the wolves dressed as sheep. Seek people that are genuinely interested in your success and value/respect accountability.
