Morning Madness

My mornings have become full of micro habits and I realize they have improved my mood to start off my day. To be honest, I wish I had developed these habits earlier on my life. I feel like I wasted so much time but I guess it’s better now than never. March is here and this is my first post for the month. While thinking of what to write my inkling to alliterate kicked in and so here we are. Morning March Madness. For those of you that follow college basketball, you’ll understand my choice of madness in the title lol…

I start my day between 5-6:30 AM. I like to have my clothes picked out from the day before. The less decisions I have to make in the morning, the better. I set my alarms at 15 minute intervals just in case I want to snooze them. Usually, I wake up before the first one even goes off. I was never a morning person growing up, but I got used to waking up at the same time for work and my body got used to it. On the weekends, I will wake up around the same time but try to lounge in bed and knock out again. Usually, I am able to sleep a bit more.

I like to give myself ample time to shower and relax before heading out to work. I am not a breakfast person, and if I do have breakfast it’s something super quick like eggs and toast or a shake. On occasion, I will make a huge breakfast, it just depends on how my appetite is.

I like to start my day with gratitude. I usually do a little prayer in my first minutes of my commute. Prayer in the morning is something I want to strengthen this year. I feel like I say the same thing each day. I know it really doesn’t matter how you pray, it just comes down to how genuine you are about it. I just feel like God is like “Mel switch it up, c’mon” lol…

The first thing I do after I am done getting ready is fill up my water bottle. I do not leave my house without my H2O. I don’t drink coffee or tea, not just because of my invisalign braces, but I just don’t tolerate caffeine all that well. I get super jittery and antsy. My water is my beverage for the day.

The next thing I do is turn on my car and the final ten minutes consist of me laying in bed. I enjoy cuddling but would be lying if I do it every morning. Lately, I have spent them solving a rubix cube after going on my phone to check the usual (IG, notifications, emails). Tik Tok is super addicting in the morning, not going to lie.

My favorite part of my morning is seeing the sunrise on my way to work. I like seeing the color of the sky change and all while I am jamming to my music in the car. I can be as loud and silly as I want. I also do like to listen to John Deloney’s podcast at 1.2x speed so I can finish the episode before I get to work.

How you start your day really sets the tone for the rest of how the day will be. Do whatever will set you in the direction of positivity.

This song will always get me in a good mood. I included it on this post because of this verse:

“Work at 8 a.m., finish 'round five

Hoes talk down, you don't see 'em outside

Yeah, they don't really be the same offline

You know dark days, you know hard times

Doin' overtime for the last month

Saturday, call the girls, get 'em gassed up”
