Northern Lights

This post is inspired by the song “Surrender” by Birdy. The song is highlighted with emotion, manifested through unrequited love, aka the recipe for heartbreak. I have a thing for sad love songs, and this song is the newest member of the bunch…

I am going to breakdown the lyrics to how I interpret them. I suggest listening to the song and then coming back to this. I attached a link of the song lyrics below. Enjoy ☺️

L = lyrics

M= My interpretation

L: Strange this wilderness inside

M: Heart is aching, it’s begging for love

L: The heart drifts from hot to cold

M: Hot = in love cold= Heartbreak

L: You think it can’t make up it’s mind

M: What does your heart really want?

L: And Suddenly it’s always known (2x)
M: You know what it has wanted all along

L: And if I could reach the Northern Lights

M: If I could reason with my head instead of my heart

L: Maybe then I’d understand it all

M: Then it would all make sense

L: Sometimes I try so hard to fight

M: I try my best to move on

L: When all I want to do is fall

M: I want to relive it all again

L: Into the night, into your arms, surrender

M: I want YOUR love back

L: Delays on the District Line

M: Stuck sitting in traffic

L: Looking at pictures on my phone

M: I can’t stop thinking about you

L: And I said I didn’t miss you but I lied

M: I put up a front at my heart’s expense

L: I told myself I let you go (2x)

M: I have deceived myself all along

If I am fortunate enough to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights), I will play this song while I am staring up at the sky. Why am I so dramatic? I wish I knew the answer lol…
