Firenze

The Renaissance is a time period of history that I love learning about because of the social, intellectual but especially artistic contributions that took place. For this reason, visiting Florence will always be special to me. No matter how many times I walk by Santa Maria Del Fiore, I am always in absolute awe with its intricate and yet enormous architecture. It took around 140 years to complete the Cathedral. The Duomo is the largest masonry structure in the world. Filippo Brunelleschi was the mastermind of the duomo. He designed a two dome structure and his innovation was to build it without any support. It is beautiful how emblematic this duomo is and the fact that it was erected by Florentine individuals. Climbing up the duomo is a surreal experience, it makes you wonder how the hell something of this complexity was built that many years ago. In addition to its spectacular architecture, Florence has delicious food. In particular, I love the sandwiches from All’Antico Vinaio and the restaurant Boccanegra for a nice evening dinner. In terms of the best gelateria, I’d say Perché No!… so damn good and they have a ton of flavors. Scootering around Florence is probably the best way to get around when you get tired of walking, it’s cheap and convenient. Best part of Florence is how small it is, you can get to see most of it by foot.

Walking the streets of Florence is like going back in time. If you appreciate architecture and art, Florence is a place worth visiting.

I would have chosen a Florentine artist for my choice of song but I don’t know any, so here is one of my favorite romantic songs. This is his Spanish version, the original is “La mia storia tra le dita”. The salsa cover Mickey Taveras is also good but this is the original.
