Give yourself a break.
When life becomes too monotonous or stressful, there are pastimes we turn to for relief. Hobbies are essential in my life. For as long as I remember, I have always had a form of escape.
Impressions: When I was around five, I remember I would perform songs by Enrique Iglesias after watching how he would perform his concerts. The couch was the stage and I would pretend there was an audience lol... Then when the novela “Pedro El Escamoso” came out in the early 2000’s I remember mimicking the dance he would do in front of my family. I did the same with Celia Cruz and my family would have a field day with my imitation of her performing “La Vida es Un Carnaval”. Recently I also do impressions of family members and let’s just say they’re priceless lol.. I have always been very observant and pick up on any little mannerisms or gestures I notice in people. Maybe it’s a hidden talent of mine (lol ok maybe that is a stretch) but I think I have an eye for impressions, and my family can attest to that. Currently, I am working towards learning Bohemian Rhapsody on the piano so I can showcase my Freddie Mercury impression. I haven’t decided if I am going to perform it at my birthday party this year (covid permitting) or only a select few. We shall see.
Music: Music is like water to me, it replenishes my soul. There is not a day that goes by without it. I am really into making playlists although I don’t have nearly as many as my little sister does (she has over 300 that’s just another level lol). I love to breakdown songs lyrically. Obviously I also listen to music that has senseless lyrics but the beat is fire. Simply put, if the song makes me move, it wins me over. I should also point out I have epic lip syncing performances while I’m on the road. If you ever have ridden with me, you know exactly what I’m talking about lol.. Since I started to learn the piano, I have a newfound respect for musicians. Composing music is hard and songwriting is a gift few have. One day I hope to have the courage to pull up to an open mic and recite my poetry.
Legos: Legos are so damn entertaining to me. I absolutely love them. I love building intricate sets, and if I could I would have a Lego room showcase in my house. I want to build the Colosseum set one day (it has over 9k pieces lol).
Technology: I am the most annoying person when it comes to getting a new gadget because I research every possible little thing about it and when I get my hands on it, it’s a wrap, I read the manuals, watch insightful videos, and research every little feature on it. When I go to Best Buy I have to go with an objective in mind or else I lose sight of time. I love to read reviews before buying anything; CNET, The Verge, and Wired are my go to review pages. I am the go to tech person among my friends and I live for it lol.
I left out a bunch of more hobbies such as photography, writing, bike riding, reading, audiobooks, podcasts, guided meditation, decluttering, studying successful people.... the list is endless lol so I will spare you all the time.
I hope this entry made you want to revisit some old hobbies or spark your curiosity with new ones. Life is too short to not be intentional with your time.
Current song obsession.
