Land of the Rising Sun
We arrived to Tokyo on my 31st birthday. This year, I was fortunate enough to be celebrated over the course of 2 days thanks to Tokyo’s 12+ hr difference with the Western hemisphere. Japan has been nothing short of amazing. Being here makes me feel like I am in an anime show. The country is so organized. The Japanese are so friendly and respectful. I have never felt uncomfortable or alienated for being a foreigner. I wish Japan was closer geographically so I could fly over any chance I could get. (SN: I feel the same way about Hawaii.)
Public transportation is so well established here. It has allowed us to get so much done in the little time we have been here. I wish the States invested in better public transportation. It would boost the economy as people would be more inclined to explore new places.
The food in Japan is delicious and reasonably priced. The 7-Elevens are a million times better than the ones in the States. These stores provide quick, enjoyable, cheap meals. Grab and go stores in Japan are called Konbini. In addition to 7-Elevens, the other Konbini chains that exist are Family Mart, Lawson, and Ministop.
Cleanliness. My god, I have never been to a city as clean as Tokyo. The lack of trash bins throughout the city promotes cleanliness. It’s unusual to see people eating on the street and much less eating while walking. Completely the opposite of what we are accustomed to see in the States.
If you ever travel to Japan, you can’t go wrong grabbing a bite to eat at one of these stores. The affordability and quality are worthwhile.
Japan you are a delight to visit. Any chance I get to visit again, I’ll do it in a heartbeat.
